1. The safety net thinned on July 1 and almost nobody told the public
Ontario's accident benefits changed. Only medical, rehabilitation and attendant care remain mandatory. Income replacement, caregiver and non-earner benefits became optional, and optional coverage now reaches only the named insured, a spouse, dependants and listed drivers. Policies renew unchanged unless the holder acts in writing.
2. The people with the least coverage are the ones not driving
Pedestrians, cyclists and some passengers who were protected in June may not be protected now. None of them chose an insurance policy. Most do not know the rules changed.
