Hurt Square publishes recovery documentation guides for injured persons in Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect through hurtsquare.ca, why we collect it, with whom we share it, and what you can do about it.
We wrote it in plain language, on purpose. Our products exist because people going through hardship deserve to understand what's happening to them. The same standard applies here.
Privacy Officer
Hurt Square operates from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. We are the organization responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

What we collect
Information you provide to us
- Your name and email address when you place an order, download a free resource, or subscribe to our communications
- Your billing information and address when you purchase a guide
- Anything you choose to write to us in an email or form
We do not ask for and do not want to know the details of your injury, medical history, claim, or insurer. Our guides are documents you fill out yourself. What you write in them is yours. We never have access to it.
Automatically collected information
- Device and browser type, operating system, and screen size
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Pages viewed, how you arrived at the site, and the duration of your visit
- Products viewed, added to cart, or purchased
This information is collected through cookies and similar technologies placed by us and by the third parties listed below.
Payment information
We never see or store your full card number. Payments are processed by Shopify and its payment service providers, who handle card data directly according to their own security standards.

With whom we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the service providers below, each for a specific purpose.
Shopify
Our online store operates on Shopify, which processes orders, hosts the site, and maintains customer records on our behalf.
Meta, i.e., Facebook and Instagram
We use the Meta pixel and the Meta Conversions API on this site. Together, these tools tell Meta which pages you have viewed, which products you have looked at, and whether you have made a purchase.
The Meta pixel works in your browser. The Conversions API transmits the same information directly from our servers to Meta, meaning it is not affected by browser settings or ad blockers.
For Meta to recognize you as the same person across its services, we transmit identifiable information, including your name, email address, phone number, and location when we have them. Meta uses this to measure our advertising, show you our ads, and build audiences of people similar to our customers.
You can limit this practice. Meta offers settings under Off-Facebook Activity and in your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences, where you can dissociate this activity from your account.
Analytics and email
We use analytics services to understand overall site traffic and an email service to send you the communications you have subscribed to. These providers process information only according to our instructions.
Legally required disclosure
We will disclose information when required by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or when necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Where your information is processed
Shopify, Meta, and our other providers store and process information on servers located outside of Canada, including in the United States. While there, it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, and government authorities of that country under its laws. By using this site, you understand that your information may be processed outside of Canada.
Before any personal information is communicated outside of Quebec, we conduct a privacy impact assessment in accordance with applicable law.
Email and consent
We send commercial electronic messages only when we have your consent or another basis permitted by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. Each commercial message identifies us, provides our contact information, and contains a functional unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are processed within ten business days and usually much faster.
Unsubscribing from promotional communications does not stop transactional messages such as order confirmations and download links, which we must send you to fulfill your purchase.
Cookies and how to control them
Cookies make your cart work, remember your preferences, and enable the measurement described above. Your browser allows you to block or delete them, although blocking them may prevent parts of the store from functioning.
Retention period
Order and payment records are kept as long as required by Canadian tax and commercial laws. Contact information used for promotional purposes is kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Analytics and advertising data are kept according to the schedules of the providers named above.
Security
The site operates using an encrypted connection and our providers apply their own security measures to the information they hold. No system is perfect. Therefore, we collect the minimum and do not store anything longer than necessary.
Privacy incidents
In the event of a privacy incident posing a risk of serious harm, we will notify you and the competent authorities, and we will keep a record of incidents in accordance with applicable law.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Delete your information, subject to records that the law requires us to keep
- Withdraw your consent to promotional communications at any time
- Transmit your information to you in a structured and commonly used technological format
- Cease the dissemination of information or de-index it when allowed by law
Write to Recovery@hurtsquare.ca and we will respond within thirty days. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec if you reside in Quebec.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals who have not reached the age of majority in their province or territory. Our guides are frequently used on behalf of injured young persons by a parent or guardian, who remains the account holder and the person with whom we interact.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top indicates the last revision. Any significant changes will be announced on this page.
