Injury Recovery Guides by Province and Territory

Injury rules in Canada are provincial, so the province where it happened decides almost everything. Your benefits, your deadlines, whether your employer has to give your job back, who you appeal to and how long you have.

Why the province matters more than the injury

Two people with identical injuries in different provinces can face completely different systems. Saskatchewan has no appeal deadline at all. Newfoundland gives you thirty days. Alberta abolished your right to be reinstated in your job. Quebec protects it for up to two years. None of that is guessable from the injury, only from the map.

Each province below has four pages. A full recovery guide and a deadlines page for collisions, and the same pair for workplace injuries. Start with the recovery guide for your situation and use the deadlines page as a reference.

What to do while you work out which system you are in

Start recording. The first days carry evidence that cannot be recovered later, and none of it depends on knowing your province. Our free First 72 Hours checklist covers what to write down straight away, and the Resource Hub has fillable trackers for symptoms, appointments, expenses and correspondence.

When you are ready for the full record, the National Recovery Guides work anywhere in Canada and the Provincial Companion Guides carry the local deadlines, forms and appeal routes.

Every page linked here shows its own last-verified date. We re-check them quarterly. If you find something wrong, write to Recovery@hurtsquare.ca and we will correct it publicly.
